First generation college bound students gathered to learn and understand what to expect while transitioning into college. Dr. Heather Hill, MD discussed how to manage new surroundings, difficulties in school, dorm living and other obstacles students may encounter. Attending college is a new experience with a range of possible thoughts, emotions and uncertainties. Dr. Hill explored these emotions as well as the importance of identifying and reflecting on them to prevent increased mental health concerns. Students learned coping techniques, how to advocate for themselves and how to identify and use campus resources. These first generation students walked away with a mental health plan to use when faced with a challenge.
