The Rebecca Lynn Cutler Legacy of Life Foundation was established in 2005 and became a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation in 2009. Carrying out the mission of Rebecca’s Dream, our foundation is propelled forward by the dreams of Rebecca Cutler, an intelligent and passionate woman who succumbed to her own struggle with depression and bipolar disorder. Rebecca’s family and friends wanted to continue Rebecca’s personal mission to help others receive the treatment and support that they need.
The vision of the Legacy of Life Foundation is to educate the world about depression and bipolar disorder while reducing stigma.
Since 2005, we have raised over $1,000,000 in support of Rebecca’s Dream to promote awareness, and compassionate understanding of depression and bipolar disorder as real diseases.
Throughout the years, we have promoted our cause through the media, health fairs, schools and professionals. Programs we have supported include:
Phoenix Family Center
Our proceeds helped the expansion and refinement of the new center. This excellent resource has podcasts, webinars, tools and resources to educate family members about recovery from the patient's point of view.
DBSA 2009 National Conference’s Family Pre-Conference Institute
We supported the underwriting for the DBSA 2009 National Conference’s Family Pre-Conference Institute, “The Nature vs. Nurture Debate: Overcoming Guilt and Stigma,” featuring presenter Jehannine Austin, PhD. This interactive workshop helped family members better understand what cutting-edge research has discovered about the causes of mental illnesses like depression and bipolar disorder. The aim is to leave family members with less guilt and stigma, and more hope, empowerment and the necessary tools to help their loved ones toward stability and recovery.
Scholarships
Our foundation supported scholarships for DBSA chapter members to attend the DBSA 2009 National Conference. Rebecca’s Dream provided both full and partial scholarships, allowing people who would not otherwise be able to participate the opportunity to do so. Some scholarships were also awarded to members of the general public.
Young People’s Training
Based on the growing need for training and compassionate understanding among those ages 25 and under, we helped the research and development of Young People’s Training, designed to provide young people with the information and tools they—and their peers—need to cope with mood disorders.
Rebecca’s Dream Legacy of Life Foundation would not be possible without the overwhelming generosity of people like you. If you would like to make a donation to Rebecca’s Dream to help continue our efforts to educate people about depression and bipolar disorder, please click here.
